Models sounds like a great and fun way to make money but it doesn't come that quick, unless your some big name model, otherwise modeling is practically done for free!

As a model you may have the opportunity to travel to beautiful locations, be pampered, attend events with celebrities, and earn thousands of dollars a day. Modeling can also lead to many other fabulous opportunities including acting.
While a lucky few can become a supermodel like Tyra Banks, it is possible to have a successful modeling job even if you are not very tall, thin, or young.

In fact, many items sell better when they are promoted by models who look more like "real" people. Consumers want to see what clothes or beauty products look like on someone “just like them.” As a result, there are modeling opportunities for people of all shapes and sizes. Which models category do you fit into?

High fashion modeling
Glamour modeling
Petite modeling
Plus size modeling
Teen modeling
Mature modeling
Body part modeling (hand modeling, etc.)
Male modeling
Character or "real people" modeling

In addition to fashion, models are also needed to advertise a wide variety of products and services – from cars to food. As a model your job may involve:
Runway models
Catalog models
Showroom models
Fit models
Promotional (trade show) models
Editorial models

Modeling Agencies

Most models are recruited by modeling scouts who roam around the country in a tireless search for fresh faces. Models are often discovered in shopping malls, schoolyards, clubs or other obvious places where young people hang out. If you fit the requirements, it's very likely that you will be noticed. You can also send pictures of yourself to an agency. At the end of the article you'll find the addresses of the top agencies in New York and Paris. You're better off sending a few simple photographs than trying to create an expensive portfolio. The simpler the photographs are, the better it is. An agency wants to see a natural face, not someone that's playing dress up and trying to strike supermodel poses. Another way to get signed is to go to agencies's open castings. Call the agencies's reception desks to find out when those are. Although some models have been discovered through model conventions, most schools and competitions is generally a waste of money. You shouldn't have to pay anybody to get access to an agency.

Become a Model

If being a model sounds like the career of your dreams, "Become a Model" is for you! In this book you will discover how you can get started and succeed in professional modeling job.
To give you inside information about modeling, author Laura Herrigs talked to many modeling professionals around the country, including models who have worked with agencies such as Elite and Ford. "Become a model" covers topics of vital importance to anyone in the U.S. or Canada who wants to get into the modeling job.

"Become a Model" - The subjects

Modeling Schools

You do not have to go through model school to become a model. I don’t want to cause any offence to anyone who may be related to any established model schools: model schools are often pricey, and the teachers have a way of making you believe that you’ve got what it takes, just to get hold of your money. Many young girls leave the modeling schools with high hopes for a future career in modelling, but when they attempt to join an agency they are usually disappointed. During the courses, model school workers teach you ‘skills’ that everyone knows already, and it only takes common sense and human initiative to put them to practise. Surely you don’t need to insult your intelligence that much. You can find out if you’ve got ‘what it takes’ by visiting a well reputed agency during their casting call – in hours, which you can find out about by phoning beforehand. Any respectable organisation would tell you straight away wether there’s any hope for you, and would contract you and eventually train you in all you need to know at no extra cost. They will also arrange a time for your portfolio snaps to be taken. New laws recently enforced make it illegal for agencies to charge any prospective models before hand. Don’t get caught out, any money grabbers will use clever terms such as ‘booking fees’ and ‘casting calls charges’ to get their hands on your cash. If In any doubt, try another agency. Your portfolio will include profile shots, plus any additions after work, your measurements and the agency details.

Pretty Face - Contest

This is to introduce to you a totally new category that no one else in the world never did with a contest. Traveling a lot and all around the world, we found in the last 12 years so many beautiful girls, with unbelievable faces but maybe too short!
To short for what is the question?
Maybe for the fashion shows, but that is not a news, everybody knows it!

But you can't tell us that means something for the magazines. So we started to choose some models not looking at their height! And it was a success. The magazines all around the world are enthusiastic for that. They had some unbelievable covers with special short models.

Beauty Contest

Beauty is one of the model job that the magazines are looking for all around the world. It's so difficult to find the right girl, boy with that great skin, nice face, where you can do a beauty editorial. No matter if you are tall or short, no matter if you are blonde or dark, short or long hair, and no matter if you are with blue or brown eyes, beauty contest is for you!

Then there's a special level in the beauty industry regarding the big clients like Estee' Lauder, Revlon, Chanel and so on. They get very interesting contract looking for new fresh looks.

Beauty contests, like sport, can be an important focus of national or regional pride. Despite the declining popularity of contests such as Miss World in the UK, beauty contests hold an important cultural place in many parts of the world.
